Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the early hours of yesterday rescued a nine-year-old boy, Korede Taiwo, who had been chained to a wood at Ajibawo area of Ado-Odo/Ota, Ogun State.
The young boy had been reportedly chained by his father, identified as Taiwo Francis of the Key of Faith parish of Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) at Ajibawo, for about two weeks.
The NSCDC in the state through its Public Relations Officer, Olanrewaju Kareem, said the boy was rescued by the Ado-Odo division of the Corps.
“The nine-year-old boy named Korede Taiwo was accused of stealing meat from the cooking pot by his step mother known as Kehinde. She then reported the matter to the father who took action by chaining his hands and legs.
“This situation was on like that until a good Samaritan informed NSCDC officials on surveillance patrol of critical infrastructure in the area. They immediately swung into action and ensured that the boy was immediately rescued”, he said.
The NSCDC added, “On getting to the church, there was serious resistance by members led by the pastor’s wife, Kehinde, but the Civil Defence Corps men insisted and they were able to force their way into the church premises. The boy was actually under lock and key. They quickly took him to the office for necessary entries and documentation and proceeded to the General Hospital, Ota.
“The boy was given a bath and one Dr. Akintunde asked NSCDC officials who took him there to give him Lucozade. They then called on a welder to cut the chains so as to enable them administer treatment.  Before the NSCDC left the hospital, he was responding to treatment as he started talking.  The hospital’s Medical Director, one Dr. Osinbajo assured the corps that the boy will get the necessary medical attention”, he said.
News man on Sunday gathered that the corps is working with the police at Atan, who promised to investigate the matter.  The police said the boy’s step mother had been arrested.
